The Dorn Method

dorn method

I am thrilled to be one of only two Certified Advanced Dorn Method therapists living and working in Cumbria, I have trained both with Brigitte Nath at the UK Dorn Method Centre, and latterly by Thomas Zudrell. I am also a member of the Dorn Method Therapists Association (DMTA) More detials about the association and the Dorn Methhod can be found on their website. This is a very powerful and highly effective treatment for all back and joint pain, combined with the Breuss Massage this is one of the best treatments I have encountered.

What is The Dorn Method

The Dorn Method was founded over 35 years ago in Southern Germany by Dieter Dorn and is now the popular treatment option in Germany for joint and back pain. The Dorn Method is now increasing in recognition around the world and is now available in the UK. Dorn is a gentle, effective and very safe treatment which helps to alleviate misalignment the cause of back and joint pain. Suitable for all ages, the treatment consists of a range of safe, corrective simple exercises, and gentle techniques to aid the joints and vertebrae move gently back into their natural position without ‘clicking’ or ‘crunching’ .

What causes misalignment in the body?

Uneven leg length,  Incorrect movements, Bad posture, Sitting cross legged, Over stretching, Stress, and General wear and tear.

How does the Dorn Method Work?

There is no magic about The Dorn Method, it's really all based on physics, fact and common sense, and a little help from you the client, who assists the Dorn therapist. A Dorn Method Treatment begins by correcting  leg length difference – 97% of the population has leg length difference causing a hip imbalance and in turn an uneven foundation for the spine, this is easily corrected with the Dorn Method and ongoing simple, easy to learn, self help exercises. The correction of a misaligned joint can sometimes prove quite difficult, and a forceful manual correction might cause more damage than good. To move the bones which are held by the inertia of our muscles we need to undertake correction in a dynamic, moving action. The client actively moves the joint while the therapist gently pushes or guides the bones back into proper position using only the thumb or the hand. Logical mechanical principles are at work, like counter pressure or levering forces, and this form of correction is usually readily accepted by our body. During movement the muscles are in a distracted state and it is reasonably easy to realign the bones without having to overcome much muscle “resistance”. Step by step, the bone is guided back into its proper position. This is completely safe because it requires only light pressure and the correction pressure is stopped as soon as any pain arises. The Dorn Method is a completely new form of manual therapy and to a great extent distinct from therapies like Massage, Chiropractic etc although the achieved results may be the same. Treatment with the Dorn Method does not unnecessarily stress muscles and ligaments through jerky manipulations that overextend them; it allows the spine to be adjusted much more frequently.Source:
