Images of Nepal
A Journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step……..
This favourite quote of mine is particularly relevant as a new journey unfolds for me…..
My life as a Holistic Therapist has taken many twists and turns, and has lead me on some amazing journeys, both inner journeys, and physical journeys, some more physical than others – as my climb to the lofty 20,113ft summit of Stok Kangri in 2009 proved. For those that know me, trekking, climbing big mountains in far away places, and raising money for charity has become something of my identity; never does a day go by when I am not asked “Where have you been trekking?” or “Which mountain are you going to climb next?” On all my trips to developing countries the images, and the memories which have been the most significant for me - are those of the children, beautiful children that through no fault of their own find themselves born into a difficult struggle for survival. But in the face of adversity these children are so often very happy; they would seem to have something that the western world lacks – contentment. Contentment in what little they have in life.
A chance meeting on a Keswick market stall with Kevin Smith and the charity ‘Images of Nepal’ which he has founded has touched my soul; it’s rare in life that one meets someone so dedicated to a cause. Kevin has a long established link with the Kirtipur Municipality area of Kathmandu in Nepal where he has dedicated much of his life to offering the neediest children of that area a chance, and a choice in life by funding life enhancing education.
I am so taken with Kevin and his commitment that I, through Lakes Holistic have pledged educate a disadvantaged child in Kirtipur. For every treatment I carry out approximately 20p will be donated to educating my nominated child. By supporting the charity through Lakes Holistic I feel that I am raising vital awareness, furthermore by having a treatment you the client are not only taking responsibility for your own health and wellbeing, but you are also actively educating an underprivileged child and ensuring that, that child has the choice of a better future. You will also be able to follow my appointed child’s development through the Lakes Holistic website.
Now I know there are a great many charities which support and educate children in third world countries, but if you are interested in doing more for the charity but please take a moment to read about Kevin’s very small, personal charity one where every single penny raised goes to the cause, furthermore if you chose to sponsor a child for as little as £2.50 a week you are matched with a child with whom you can retain close contact, and are actively encouraged to visit, or monitor as you wish.
For me I feel very privileged to have had that chance meeting, and been offered the possibility to make a real difference, and who knows where this journey will take me.
