Hot Stone Massage

hot stone massageStone Therapy sometimes known as Hot Stone Massage or by its original name LaStone Therapy utilises both hot and cold stones and incorporates them long with massage techniques in order to bring about a feeling of deep relaxation and wellbeing.

The hot stones used are typically volcanic rocks such as basalt, and the cold stones are in general marble. They come in a range of varying shapes and sizes, their size and shape determines where on the body they can be used.
The stones are warmed, or chilled to varying temperatures before being placed on the client according to their needs, when used with massage they can provide benefits that are not achievable through massage alone.
Stone therapy is a thermotherapy, using a combination of hot and cold stones of alternating temperatures can be very beneficial for a range of varying conditions.
The heated volcanic stones are used on key acupressure sites, as well as for massaging - the heat, warms and relaxes the muscles allowing for a deep penetrating massage.
Heated stones can also be placed on the body’s chakras or energy centres, working with the body’s natural energy to create balance physically, emotionally, spiritually and mentally.
The stones will be specifically selected according to your individual requirements.
Cold stones can be used to reduce and/or treat inflammation, detoxification, and aid the removal of swelling from an area.
Using hot and cold stones together can improve the functioning of the circulatory system and aid the body’s self-healing processes.
When receiving stone therapy massage, it is not unusual for the client’s body temperature, heart rate and breathing rate to rise and fall during the treatment, this is not harmful it is merely the result of the rapid exchange of oxygen and blood in the body.
The aim of the treatment is to aid conditions, ease muscular tension, bring about deep relaxation and induce an overall sense of wellbeing.
